The Gilweroo Team - the Directors
Chief Director (formerly Camp Chief) - Bryan Crow
Bryan has been leading the team since 2000. His guidance has seen the camp grow from less than 300 participants to its peak in 2019, when we hosted over 2500 Scouts with the support from over 160 Venturers.
When things were looking grim for the 2004 camp scheduled at our spiritual home at Gilwell Park, Bryan was able to negotiate a deal with Joseph Harris Park (Bay Park) that saw us run 16 camps between 2004 and 2019.
Founder, Director People - Jon Peart
In 1975, Jon attended his Advanced Scout Wood Badge Course at Gilwell Park along with a number of leaders from other groups. They decided to meet again the following year, with their scouts in tow, and so Gilweroo was born.
The camp has grown over time and we can proudly say that Jon has attended every camp since that first one in 1976.
He continues to support the team with his knowledge and guidance to this day.
Youth Deputy Chief Director - Tara Wilson
Tara's primary role is as a Cub Scout Leader with Berwick Central. However, she has been a member of the Admin team at Gilweroo since taking on the role during her tenure on the State Scout Council.
Tara has been to 3 Kangarees, 3 Cuborees and 3 Jamborees during her time in Scouting, both as a participating youth member or in a service role.
She was appointed to the Executive of the Gilweroo Committee in 2021.
Director Administration - Fiona (Ghost Bat) Macdonald
Fi has been helping out in the Admin area of Gilweroo since 2003, having attended her first Gilweroo in the lines as a youth helper in 2002.
She is a Wood Badged Joey Scout Leader and Activity Leader 4x4.
Her appointment as Administration Director sees her take the reigns in the management of the General Office.
Director Program - Chris (Badger) Seabrook
Badger has been on the team since 2002. His ingenuity has seen the creation of many of the activities that Gilweroo has provided over the las 20 years.
2022 is no exception with a significant number of new and modified activities being provided at our new Elmore venue.
Badger has his Scout Section Woodbadge and has been active in a number of groups including Mooroolbark and 3rd Heathmont. He was also on the State Abseiling Team for many years.
Director Sites and Services - tba
The role of Director Sites and Services is currently vacant.
Director Catering - Jenni Dowell
Jenni and Lyall Dowell have been helping out at Gilweroo since 1998.
Every year, Jenni has catered for the Committee over the weekend and the week leading up to the camp, as well as catering for some of the independent team that are engaged to assist with certain activities and services. She has also managed the Kiosk during that time.
When we introduced catering for Venturers and Activity Support teams some years ago, Jenni has coordinated that effort.
Director Venturer & Rover Services - Narelle Lowdell
New to the team in 2022, Naz takes on the responsibility for all things Venturers at Gilweroo. This includes the 1st Gilweroo Venturer Unit and the general oversight of the Venturers as they work to support Gilweroo Activities and Services.
Amoung the many hats that Naz wears in Scouting, she is a Venturer leader and also brings a wealth of program knowledge to the team from her role as State Commissioner OAS Leader Support.
